Last week we went to see the civil wars, with the staves. One of the most amazing shows I’ve ever been to. I’ve never seen such a large group of people in one place be so absolutely still, and quiet while they were playing and roaring in between songs.
Our friend Steve Coleman took this amazing picture at the show.
This is mainly for me. Writing new music makes me look back on the old. I loved this song and its message. It was called the view from up here. I was toying with doing a cover of it, but we’ll see how close i can get to it.
Oh travaler, oh teacher
come find me at my lowest
on the highest branch of the tree
I’ve heard of wonders that spill from your fingertips
and yet you seek me
though I am not without the sting of imperfection
what makes my stature greater
what makes me stand straighter
if you could set aside my defiled hands
you could have everything in my heart
but will the world still look at me as a crooked man
judge me not by my works but the intentions of my heart
look not where i stand but where i run to
I’ve heard of wonders
so like water into wine you transform me
prove me to be greater than my shadow
oh hosanna, let your light shine on me.
